If you have a physical product that you can sell, you will need a website, shopping cart, merchant account and be able to perform the shipping and tracking of the product.  Plus you will need to handle customer service issues either by phone or email.  If the product is something YOU MAKE, all the better because no one else can sell it and you have no competition.

I think this is one of the fantastic things about eBay.  You can create something and sell it without the hassle of getting a patent or trying to have stores carry it.  Just develop it and list on eBay.

There are a couple of women who make a killing on eBay selling homemade clothes for Barbie Dolls!! Isn't that a fantastic idea? And brought on by women who thought they didn't have anything that people would buy.  I can't even sew a button on a shirt, so people who can sew whole outfits simply amaze me!

Now they could set up a website of their own and use their eBay About Me Page to get the eBay traffic over to their website... once there, the visitor emails could be captured and the doll clothes could be promoted to them whenever a new item is made.  The more eBay fees you can avoid, the better.

The experience/knowledge level for this type of endeavor is intermediate to advanced. You'll need good web design skills to create a site and install a shopping cart.  You'll also need good research capabilities to know if your product will sell and how much to charge.  However, you can use PayPal to accept payments and they have a shopping cart 'system' and PayPal payment buttons they help you create.
